The Colegio Humboldt is constantly seeking to raise the awareness of problems related with our social environment and to foster the willingness to help. Therefore, we have implemented in all grades aid projects directed towards different unprivileged communities in the federal state of Puebla.

In the Maternal section of our school, toys are collected in order to support the project “Carrito de Abril”. This is a playful program for children which are hospitalized at the pediatric ward of the Manuel Ávila Camacho hospital, in the San José Clinic of the IMSS. It consists of providing the children with games, toys, coloring books and didactic material to make handiworks so that they have the possibility of playing and of distraction during the long process of recovery.

Another project for our environment which is carried out in Kindergarten is the assistance in population control and adoption of pets. With the purpose in mind, we organized a Christmas fair. The revenues obtained in this fair are donated to Asociación Protectora de Animales Gùyú anímalto, A.C. (Society for the prevention of cruelty to animals Gùyú animalito). Here, the money is used for the purchase of medication and surgical material for the realization of vasectomies in order to cope with the enormous challenge of controlling the reproduction of stray dogs and to find a loving and caring home. In 6th grade, the pupils take part in a school trip. Part of this activity consists of visiting a rural school in the Sierra Norte. There, the pupils have the possibility to get to know the needs of this community firsthand. Our pupils donate this school many things, from second-hand clothes in good condition, exercise books, writing material, computers, etc.

In 9th grade of Middle School the students take part in a one-week social work activity. During this week they visit different social institutions where they do several activities in order to learn about how to be able to help economically disadvantaged, handicapped or elderly people. Another important social project is to take care of the environment. Therefore pupils visit an institution, located on the coast of Veracruz, which preserves endangered sea turtles. At the end of the week's activity the students prepare a presentation in order to share their experiences with the partents and 2nd grade students. The aim of this social work experience is to increase awareness and emphasize the responsibility we all have in connection with daily social issues. See photos
