Secundaria

Dear students, Dear parents,
Dear school community,

After one year working at Colegio Humboldt, I have the benefits of experience and I am very pleased to have the opportunity to work with you as the Middle School Principal in the coming years.

My objective is to preserve what has already been tried and tested while, at the same time, introducing new ideas and I want to further develop our school in conjunction with all the people involved in everyday school life. During this Centenary year, I expect to encourage the student's council by giving them the opportunity to express their ideas and to take part in the development of the school.

At the end of the last school year, 9th graders enjoyed their experience of one week doing social work. Several social institutions supported us with this project. I am very thankful for the teachers' and students' commitment as well as for the parents' confidence.

School can only succeed if we concur in thoughts and acts and if we are willing to discuss, evaluate, reconsider and commit ourselves:

Schools offers something unique because they are some of the few places where so many experts come together:

  • Children and adolescents are their own experts, knowing best what are their needs and their individual ideas.

  • Parents, thanks to their life experience and their daily time spent with their children, are experts in their children’s education.

  • Teachers are experts due to their didactic-methodical studies, their pedagogical capacities, and their professional knowledge.

Therefore there is an amazing potential to be tapped at our school. It is up to us to seize it!

I. Enrollment requirements

  • Admission exams

  • Hand in complete documentation

For the students that want to enter 7th grade it is NOT required to have any knowledge in German. Colegio Humboldt offers specially designed beginners' classes of German to assure a fast integration of the these new 7th graders.

It is necessary that the parents support the school philosophy and methodology, however, knowledge of the German language by the parents is not necessary.

II. Content and methodology

Our main goal is to achieve a high level of academic preparation, giving special importance to the acquisition of competences oriented towards self-directed action.

To attain this goal we strive for success in the following areas:

  • Competence in the knowledge of the subjects, the languages, the methods and media.

  • Skills for self-regulated learning of interrelated themes with the different subjects.

  • Social competence, self-confidence, responsibility, tolerance and mutual respect.

The wide range of workshops provides practical knowledge in different areas of interest like graphic design, automotive mechanics, mechatronics, gastronomy, video production and arts.

Starting in 9th grade there is the opportunity of a six-month exchange to Germany.

Upon completion of 9th grade:

  • Middle School certificate of the Mexican Public Education Ministry SEP for all groups

  • German “Hauptschulabschluss” certificate for Integrated Groups, in which the students prepare to obtain both the Mexican and German certificate.

III. Field trips

  • Several half-day field trips during the school year

  • Four-day “year group trip" for 8th graders

The goal is to achieve the integration, to relate theoretical knowledge to everyday life situations and to integrate environmental issues into the classes.

IV. Social Projects

At the end of June the 9th graders participate in social work activities for one week. These activities will already have been thoroughly dealt with during the school term. More information

V. Extracurricular activities

Colegio Humboldt offers at no cost:

  • A wide range of workshops, e.g. handicraft, sports, arts.

  • Conferences and workshops for parents, about educational and pedagogical issues often suggested by the parents themselves.

  • If necessary, weekly extra classes for students of all grades.

Our school also offers consultation of highly trained psychologists, in case of behavioral problems.

In Middle School, great importance is given to the collaboration of the students in order to organize their own events with the intention of motivating them to take the initiative.

VI. Our classrooms

Our Middle School has large classrooms with various didactic material and the standardized contemporary technical equipment such as video projectors, recorders, computers, etc. In that way the implementation of a “teaching-learning” concept is guaranteed according to the highest quality standards.

The Science building with its biology, physics and chemistry laboratories as well as computer rooms and spaces for the teaching of languages are for the use of our students.

VII. General Information

Colegio Humboldt doesn't have a school uniform. But a sports uniform is required for PE classes, competitions and ceremonies.

We also have an infirmary with the necessary equipment that offers first aid services for the whole school community led by a professional nurse.

For further information please contact the secretary of Middle School in order to make an appointment with the director of Middle School.
